DESTINATION
One hour’s flight from Bangkok and Hanoi is the beautiful and untouched nation of Laos. A country still relatively closed to the rest of the world, just in the last few years opened its doors to tourism. Land locked and surrounded by China, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia Vietnam, this small nation is rich in culture and heritage. Luang Prabang, is located in north and central Laos, on the Mekong River, about 425 km north of Vientiane. The current population of the city is about 22,000. Once the royal capital of Laos, it is redolent of the old Orient, and its French colonial atmosphere is still evident throughout the city. Until the communist takeover in 1975, it was the royal capital and seat of government of the Kingdom of Laos. The city is also notable a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Dry season runs from November to April. November to February are cooler while March and April are blisteringly hot. April is the hottest month.
Wet season runs from May to October, though it may start a little early in a couple of Laos' northern provinces. August is the wettest month
HEALTH
Laos is considered very malarial, so anti-malarial are recommended, but check with health professionals: there is a high incidence of parasite drug resistance in these parts. Other mosquito-born diseases, such as dengue, can be life-threatening, so make sure you bring insect repellent and ensure that you sleep with mosquito protection like nets or at least a fan.
The usual precautions regarding food and water are wise. Bottled water is widely available.
